Looking for a place in LA

October Ascending

Today’s been a mental day, well, the past weeks have been mental. Well. The summer’s been mental. Working three jobs have taken it’s toll, and I am preeeetty tired. Today I woke up really tired, having slept very little. I still haven’t managed to turn around my day rhythm. But I went off to work, struggled to stay awake for five hours, then I headed home for din-din’s, then my mum drove me to the museum, to do another run of the Viking show wandering play thingy. In the rain, Great. Then when we finished that run, we RAN downtown to do another run, the last run of our City Wandering play, and I got to wear my drug-addict gear again.

Its been a looooong day, and I’m feeling all weird. Last night when I couldn’t sleep, I started looking online, properly, on Craigslist and Roomates4u and all sorts of websites, to find a place to stay when I’m going to LA. Im looking for places that are relatively near The Groundlings school, which is on Melrose Avenue.

There is a dorm sort of place, that I’ve been in touch with on Wilcox avenue, which is just off Melrose, and not far away from the school. It looks kinda cool, and it’s a mixed household, which is what I prefer. It’s within my budget, with all ameneties included, which is great.

The downside is obv sharing a room with two, possibly three other girls. But I’m Okay with it, as it’s probably all I can afford. I kinda like the idea of this place, but I am very wary of things online, as I’ve been scammed before. The management of the housing is called Loriff management, and I asked them if they had a legal person I could get in touch with, they didn’t but they referred me to their website and facebook page etc. I’m still not entierly sure, and I’m definately not putting down a deposit untill I’ve heard back from my contacts that I’ve been in touch with about housing. But it seems like a good option.

Melrose is awesome, it was the place in LA that reminded me of London, Camden like, which made me feel better, as I LOVE LOVE London, and miss it very much. It’s got nice street art

and colourful buildings, with shops, vintage shops, theatre’s bars etc. And it just seems cool.
It seems like a cool area to live near, and I’ll try and do as much stuff, and see as many shows as I can when I’m there.

But more than ANYTHING, I am really really looking forward to going back to Hawaii ! My heart is now torn between three places, London, Norway and Hawaii, and I miss my friends there alot lot lot. I can’t wait to see Sophia again

My friends and coworkers at Honolulu Theatre

My Good friend Rick, who’s wonderfully weird and lovely

Going out on the Razz with Megan again, who I’m emailing back and forth, as she’s ENGAGED and she’s looking at rings! Ahhhh exciting!

I miss them all so much, and I can’t waiiiiit.

Before that though, I have budgeted a little small scale, fist pumping, beach tanning, sea swimming, greek food eating trip to Greece with my girls. Sadly Melissa is probably not able to go because of her work situation, but me and Gweny and Elisabeth are going on a real boys girls trip (Boys girls meaning that we are boyish girls going on a traditional girls trip which is very unlike us) and I am very excited about that. I am knackered from working, and I need a bit of a tan so I won’t be so pasty when I reach LA and Oahu.

Gweny is coming here on the 8th of september, CANT WAIT, and then we’re most probably going to Rhodes. It’ll be very fun I think, and I love Greece so much, so Im very happy to go there again, and to a place I haven’t been to.

Gwen and I. Out on the razz in London. I miss that. And I can’t wait to go out with her in the famous bar streets of Rhodes! Woop! To drinking coke to the break of daaawn and fistpumping in a tiny dress smelling of aloe vera with salty hair!

    1. Hi there Jessica! πŸ™‚

Loriff is dependable, as in – it’s not a scam, and you do get a good place to stay.
I’d say Loriff is definately a cheap and nice option.

But You have to be ready to share a room with people, and enjoy the few moments you get to yourself, and appreciate and show patience in all those times when you’re surrounded by all sorts of people. πŸ™‚

The general manager Al is nice, but all the houses usually have a housemanager, and it all depends on who they are and what they are like. Also, it obviously depends on who you live with and share a room with. But I’d recommend you try it for a month or two, and get to know the area and then perhaps later find somewhere else. As you can do month by month with Loriff. πŸ™‚

I have gotten some lifelong friends out of the experience, but yes… It is a challenge πŸ˜‰
