Swimming with Dolphins in Hawaii

You know those days when you plan on doing something, but you oversleep, or plan it badly and end up not doing it, figure out something else to do and you go ahead trying to be positive even though the thing you’re gonna do isn’t as good as the original plan, and then you end up crossing something out of your bucket list? Well, this was that kind of a day.

Rick and I had planned on going out to the North shore, as neither of us has spent enough time out there, but as we stayed up till 5 in the morning watching movies and talking, we overslept. Neither of us drives, and a bus drive would have taken way too long, and we wouldn’t catch much sun and we faced the sad fact that there was little point in going. I was really grumpy for a while, because it was mostly Rick’s fault, let’s be honest. So he said he was gonna get me some flip flops at the ABC store to cheer me up, and he came up with another plan.

We got on the bus to go to the Sandy beaches, and I cheered up as soon as we sat down with our bananas, vitamin waters and my ipod. It was a lovely ride with lots of nice scenery and I felt very happy again. Now, we got nearer the last stop, which was Aloha Sea life park, and we decided to go and check it out. Now, at the entrance buying our passes, the lady asked, “So, do you wanna swim with some dolphins?” And I said; “Hell yeah!” Rick and I started hysterically laughing as she signed me up and started handing me the information. Couldn’t believe that this was happening, very random and spontaneous, but that’s how we like it.

So we headed inside and checked a few things out before heading to the dolphin place. Now, I have mixed feelings about these places, sure the animals look healthy and happy too, but they are in captivity, and it makes you think that how are they captive in the first place? They are surely making money on them, so they are going to keep taking them in. But I am going to ignore this fact and my speculations for now, just because I want to tell this joyous tale.

This was a pretty nice little park
I was so excited, and kinda emotional actually, as I was about to do something that I’ve always wanted to do, and I don’t know that many people that has been able to do that, so it’s kinda a big deal.

The dolphins were so cute, and really well trained, the trainer took us through some rules and things we were gonna do with the dolphin.

There was a mama dolphin and her two kids, and the kids were so naughty. But it was so much fun playing with them.

we were greeting the dolphin with shakas and shouting aloha to it, and he started splashing around and showing off to us.

Touching him was so weird…! hahah. We were stroking him and giving him belly rubs, and he kinda felt like the way I thought a dolphin would feel. Hard to explain, but kinda slippery, kinda fishy, but in a nice way.

I got to kiss him and get a kiss from him and he was so cute, making that dophin sound.

He loved showing off and the group that I was with loved him. I was glad I wasn’t the only one to be nervous. I was worried I was gonna do it wrong, when I was gonna ride it.

So I was in the water, and the trainer was busy talking to one of the others in the group, so she didn’t tell me he was coming, but he knew what to do and swam right up next to me and his finn just landed in my hand

Then I grabbed on to it and I grabbed on to the other finn, an I had the ride of my life
It was so much fun and I will never forget it. A truly amazing experience.

I’m officially obsessed with dolphins now. OBSESSED! Dolphiiiiiiiiiins! So cute.
