Yesterday I decided to spend the day with Kim. School is over, and I work at the orphanage everyday except saturdays, but I miss Kim a lot and wanted to have some extra time with him. IMGP7760Everytime I brought Kimanzi home to his family his grandmother, auntie and grandfather invited me to come in. So the last day I told them I would come. So the day before yesterday I visited their house, and met all his cousins and siblings. I had tea with them, and showed them a book about Norway. Then they walked me to their pond where they get their water from. Then they cooked Ugali and vegetables for me for lunch. IMGP7768I felt very honoured, and they all seemed happy to have me there. Kim said that he wanted to come home with me the next day, and that his grandmother had said it was ok. So I planned a day out for us. IMGP7761The Butterfly pavilion is an extension of Haller Park, another wonderful park carved out by Bamburi Cement factory, with a playing ground, many fields, bicycles for rent, picnic spots and of course, the butterfly pavilion.IMGP7769We had lots of fun playing around and singing together, and it was nice to see the grounds, as on this sunday I am going there with all the New Hope kids, to an event with a lot of other orphanages, where we are performing a play that we have been rehearsing this week. Now I know what it looks like and what we are working with. Butterfly Pavilion Bamburi Cement Factory Mombasa Kenya Haller ParkWalking around in the trails enjoying the shade of the trees and Kims cute voice trying to express himself in English. His English isn’t very good, and as he is from a poor background, he hasn’t been able to keep up in school, and is in class one, even though he should be in class two or three by now. Butterfly Pavilion Bamburi Cement Factory Mombasa Kenya Haller Park fish pondWe counted all the butterflies we saw, big beautiful ones (sorry mami no photos) and we enjoyed feeding the fish in the fishpond. IMGP7770I had prepared a picnic for us, and made some English puzzles and excercies, and I made him read the book about Tigger. It was a big treat for him, eating biscuits and crisps. He was so grateful and happy, that my heart was smiling like the sun. IMGP7771I had even drawn some things that he coloured in, he had to colour in the objects with the correct colour and write the English names for them. IMGP7781While we waited for George to pick us up, we read a book each, I read about Kenya, and Kim read more about Tigger. Then Kim was allowed to borrow my camera to take some photos…IMGP7773 IMGP7797 IMGP7772 IMGP7775 IMGP7786 IMGP7776

Then I took some photos of him, which made him scream with laughter, to see himself, it’s a very rare occasion for the kids here, to be taken a photo of, so they all love it, and want to see themselves all the time. IMGP7790 IMGP7791 IMGP7795HOW CUTE IS HE!?

After  this we went to New Hope, and I did some more rehearsal with the kids on the play we are performing on sunday. Then Hilary, a boy from the High school drove me and Kim to the cinema on his motorbike, and joined us in watching “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2” they both seemed to have  a lot of fun. And when I came home, after a night ride with them on the bike, I felt like I had had an amazing day.
