Hoooooraaaay! I’ve gotten my Employment authorization card! We applied in May, and I got it in the post at the end of August. We had to file a lot of paperwork, with a lot of help from our attorney who already had most of our vitals and papers from our K1 petition. I also had to go in for Biometrics at the Immigration services where they took my fingerprints (for the MILLIONTH time) my height, weight, photo and signature as you see on my Employment authorization card. It is such a relief after all the Sh*t we’ve been through with the K1 visa petition, staying 10 months apart in turmoil, and now Rick having had to provide for the both of us WHILE studying full time! It’s been insane, and now finally I CAN WORK! My wonderful mother sent us some money so we could go out and celebrate, which we did, dinner and good times, and Rick also surprised me with beautiful white roses. So I jumped onto VISTAPRINT which I love, they have great offers, and great designs, with options of customizing. Got my business card in the post the other day, Two sided print in a batch of 250 for around 30$ ! That’s awesome. And Then of course, the next step is getting an agent or manager. I had already done my research and wanted to go for an agency that I had read and heard good things about, and approached it the good old London way, SNAILMAILED my CV (resume) with head shot and an invite to the show I’m doing in september/october. Luckily only around four days later, I got a call from the founder of the agency and got an appointment. So I had my alarm clock set for 6 o’clock in the BLOODY morning. I was prepared, I got ready in good time, I got on the bus with my travel plans and google maps, with the intention of being there 20 minutes before the meeting. So I follow the guidelines COPIED from the address in the email from the agency, get of the bus stop that my app Hopstop told me to do. For a few seconds my phone lost internet connection and the whole thing disappeared. I looked at my useless directions on my post-it note, that damned blue thing that led me astray. Then I opened my email once I had internet again, got the address and opened it in google maps. Then I despair as I see that I have over a MILE to walk. I must have gone off at the wrong stop I thought, and started following the directions. I walk and walk, through road work, diversions, in the scorching sun, in HEELS, in a tight short leopard dress, with my purse looking like a proper blonde idiot, walking past sniggering road-workers. As I get to my destination in the middle of NOWHERE by a weird concrete building by a bridge, the road workers there tell me I’ve gone the wrong way and gonna go back. I walk along the way running to find a house as the Taxi I called won’t pick me up unless I’m at an address. In the taxi I talk to Rick as Im panicking and CRYYYING, I can’t get a hold of the agency, left three voice mails and an email. And I am TWENTY minute LATE! I am NEVER late, so this is TERRIBLE. And my FIRST meeting with the agency! Well, I STILL GOT SIGNED! Whohooo. They understood the situation and we got past it pretty fast. It was exiting, it was a nice mutually respectful conversation, and we came to an agreement. And as I walked out to find the bus home, I treated myself to a jamba juice, as I was so frickin thirsty after this very stressful morning. So now it begins. Self employed again, tax papers, contracts, head shots auditioning… Exciting but scary. It’s weird that a part of the profession is to provide measurements of ones body. But what you gonna do? And right now I am too happy to care! I have an agent! Even after that humiliating, sweaty, nightmarish morning, it went well, and the day developed into a GREAT day.
