Financially things have been moving slowly for me, after I got my Work Authorization card in late August, I haven’t really been able to catch a break. I applied for Coffee Bean, Starbucks, Jamba Juice and all sorts of places, where I applied online first, then went in and met the managers, handed them my resume, but… I guess my education as an Actress makes them consider me a person that probably won’t stay very long. BUT! My husbands continuous support has given me TIME, which is invaluable, as it takes time to create a network and find something within the field of my expertise. And YES, I have finally gotten myself some gigs! As previously mentioned, I am employed at AlohaSitters which is a babysitting/childcare company, although I haven’t been working that much with them yet.
But I started working at Lanikai Elementary as a Drama teacher for a group of 20 kids from Kindergarten to 6th. graders! I have lesson plans, drama games, reward prizes and equipment at the ready and the first two sessions have been very successful! And so much fun! This is something I am good at, something I Love, how lucky am I to be able to work like this!?
And then for my MAIN gig! I have landed a very cool but very secret job, a mystery tour around Waikiki, which is a new project that we are just establishing.
We have shot the promo and worked out most of the script, the route, and getting most of the permits sorted.
We are all playing characters, stationed at different places around Waikiki, and some are walking with the audience, leading them through markets, shops, streets looking for clues, getting over obstacles and meeting new characters.
This is also where I met these two very cool and talented gentlemen, Isac and Alan who introduced me to another gig!
Oh yeah,
A PIRATE SHIP CRUISE!!!! I went along to their cruise to see what my mateys where doing on there,
I could quickly see that this required great stamina, projection and good improvisation skills. What a challenge! What a Hot, sunny, salty, sweaty, challenge! To get my sea-legs, I came again along to the cruise in my mock-up Pirate outfit, and although I had just gotten ill, shadowed the pirates and did my pirate training.
When I came home….. I was worse for wear, but I had made 20 Bucks, and done my first day of pirate training, and really enjoyed it as well! However, I’ve been sick ever since,
With the Ebola thing going on over here, I had to reassure a nervous sister in law that I was not bleeding from special places, and I was not going to die or spread the Virus. The first three days I didn’t leave bed much, but was doted on by my lovely husband, who took the load. Feeling better now though! Much better!
And things seem to look up for me on the work front. ๐
Good luck with new jobs ๐
So happy you’re feeling better!!๐
