DISCLAIMER – this is not as much of a review as it is ‘an experience’ this is the journey from online release – to the shop – to first impression. I’m not going to bore you with swatches and things, as there are plenty of that out there, and most importantly Kandee herself released an awesome video about it (Posted on the bottom)
If you – like me, have been watching Kandee Johnson for years and years, followed her through her rise to fame, birth of her baby, her loss of her father, her hair colours and engagement – you have been waiting for this for as long as I have!
However – some of you may know that my New years resolution (above) was to NOT BUY ANYMORE MAKEUP the whole year. Because I have too much. TOO MUCH. But come on! I’ve waited forever for this! So I decided to break the resolution once this year for this (yes, I have made it this far!)I called Ulta to confirm the rumours about the collection going on sale online or in the stores – when – where blahdidah, and they didn’t know. In a panic i foolishly ordered the ONLY two things that were left online – The Palette and the eyeliner. Only two hours after Online release. On saturday I called again, and to my horror they confirmed that they were going to sell her collection in store the next day. Just like it said online – just like Kandee said, but what the store had no clue about. So I worried my particular store had an exception. I know. Silly me. I woke up Early on Sunday morn (10:30am – THAT’S EARLY ON A SUNDAY) and ran to the nearest Ulta, where I saw a few other ladies hovering casually around the entrance, checking if the door magically had opened even though it was only 10:58 When the grumpy Ulta lady opened the door, we trickled in carefully, and Surrounded her – Kandee. After a few minutes, this had happened, and I had snagged the things that I REALLY wanted (of course I wanted it ALL but I’m not made of money) and hadn’t already bought online. It makes me happy to see how happy it makes Kandee that people are loving her makeup!
I put the lovely packaging on my vanity area, and waited for the rest to come in the mail. And I waited…. and I waited. 5 WHOLE DAYS. Until it was finally here!I guess the only good thing from ordering online is that I received some samples. – Still, not much of a comfort! Ha ha, gosh I sound like a crazy whiny little shit. IM GRATEFUL, I MEAN IT! And now I have it all! AAAALL yeeeess miiiiine its miiiine… Kandee goes on and on about these lip things, and I was sceptical I gotta say, not of the color choice or anything, but whether it would stay on as much as I need it to, as I am a BAD lipstick person, I need to have something that stays on hardcore – and it is impressive. It’s not like the L’Oreal or Covergirl ones that stay ALL frickin day, but it doesn’t get that dry flaky texture either, it feels soft the whole time, and are truly gorgeous blendable colors. Her genius ‘Melted Ice cream’ color, is truly a marvel, and I hope/suspect that Two Faced will keep it going, as it truly does work in making any color look three-dimensional and fuller. And to think, they told her that they didn’t think it would work. Go Kandee!Their brilliant new eyeliner tip, that she demonstrate that pretty much anyone can do a good eyeliner with, and it STAYS all day! It is AMAZING! The saleslady was explaining to this random unexperienced woman who was looking for a liquid liner; “It’s really amazing, it;s got a great color, and its easy to put on!’ The woman responded; “I’m not very good at putting it on, do you have any stensils?” And I wanted to interrupt and tell her that the brush works as a stamp as well, so you can just keep stamping it to achieve a straight line, as it was clear to me that the Sales lady was just trying to meet a quota. But I just walked away instead of indulging in my obsessive behaviour. Ha ha. This beauty is fantastic – I love highlighters (I have too many), and particularly pink ones. So this was perfect for me. It’s a cream powder stick, so it has a special texture, it has great pigment and blendability, straight on foundation or bare skin, and even on foundation that has been set with a powder! I really love it, and the Sweet smell of it, although it is not the BEST highlighter, my favorites are still ‘MoonBeam’ by Benefit and the ‘nutcracker’ Special from Mac. They just have a more INSANE highlight, which is easy to tone down.
The Palette is FANTABULOUS! I have hazel/brown eyes, so these colors are really Spot on for me. I can tell these are her favorite colors, and she’s created some originals that she usually blends 3-4 colors to get (she goes crazy with her color mixtures – ha ha). They smell amazing, and just like she demonstrates, they are diverse and WELL PIGMENTED!
The ‘Chocolate tin box’ design is brilliant, and I love that it is magnetic. The colors – again, are truly magnificent, however my camera can not capture it. Another Ingenious thing that I haven’t got in my collection is the Banana Powder, which truly is a miracle worker. I am Obsessed. My undereye has never looked this good, or creased this little. It’s amazing. I wish could afford had a second one to carry around in my purse, but because this is special makeup, I am saving everything for special occasions ! These little colorful specks are supposed to make this great for all skintones, however I suspect that not ALL skintones get away with this. I love the collection, but then again, I am white. I think darker skintones than me could definately use all of this stuff, but truly dark, – I don’t know. I hope Kandee makes it her mission to discover the equivalent of this to real dark ladies. Now the makeup is finally home where it belongs, now I just gotta find out where to put everything! (THIS IS WHY I MADE THE RESOLUTION).
Thank you Kandee! I love it all so much, it’s great, and a reasonable price. Thanks TooFaced, for another great collection, please keep selling this collection forever, and Kandee, please give us more!
Five out of Six stars on the Jasometer!
